new Delhi [India], 14 December (ANI): New Delhi [India], 14 December (ANI): Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday said that if the BJP lacks faith in democracy, it should withdraw the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) as people are against it.
“Democracy is wiped out of the country. If the government has one ounce of confidence in democracy, it should repeal the CAA, given the mood of the people. Elected governments are against this law. Must understand. And then rule accordingly, “Gehlot told ANI.
He also drew comparisons between a similar rally organized by the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and said that today’s rally is being organized to give voice to the issues of the people.
“40 years ago ‘Bharat Bachao Rally’ was organized under the leadership of Indira Gandhi against the then misrule of Janata Party. Today we are also holding a rally against the gross economic management of BJP government. Now they bring citizenship (amendment) Are.) Act, which is to divert the attention of the public from the real issues, ”he said.
The Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, provides citizenship to non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, who arrived in India before December 31, 2014.
The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill was passed by Parliament earlier this week and became an act with President Ram Nath Kovind giving its assent on 12 November (ANI)
