new Delhi [India], 14 December (ANI): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday reiterated his stand and said he would not apologize for the “rape in India” comment.
“I was told by the BJP in Parliament yesterday, ‘Rahul ji, you made a speech. Apologize for it.’ At the party’s ‘Save India’ rally by Gandhi it was said that I was asked to do something which is right. My name is not Rahul Savarkar. My name is Rahul Gandhi. I will never apologize for the truth.
On Friday, the Congress leader refused to apologize for his remarks and said the issue was being raised by the BJP to divert public attention from the protests in the Northeast on the Civil Amendment Act.
“I will not apologize … I have a clip in my phone in which Narendra Modi ji is calling Delhi the ‘capital of rape’, will tweet it so that everyone can see. The main issue Narendra Modi and Amit Shah have answered- Eastward. Fire. To divert attention from the protests in the North East, it is being made an issue by the BJP.
He had also said that incidents of rape are taking place from different parts of India as incidents were happening everywhere.
“I said that Narendra Modi said there would be ‘Make in India’. We thought there would be ‘Make in India’ in the newspapers, but we look at newspapers today and see ‘Rape in India’. Rape everywhere Events are happening ”, she added.
He said, “In Unnao, a woman was raped by a BJP MLA. The victim’s ordeal was orchestrated. Narendra Modi did not say anything. Modi spread violence and now it is everywhere in the country.”
There was an uproar in both houses of parliament on Friday as BJP members demanded an apology from the former Congress president.
Union Minister Smriti Irani has also approached the Election Commission of India (ECI) to demand stern action against Gandhi to use crimes against women as a political tool.
Addressing an election rally in Jharkhand on Thursday, Gandhi had said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched ‘Make in India’, but nowadays it is ‘rape in India’.
“Narendra Modi said ‘Make in India’, but nowadays wherever you look is ‘rape in India’. In Uttar Pradesh, Narendra Modi’s MLA raped a woman, then she with an accident Millie but Narendra Modi did not say a word. ” He said that. (ANI)
